Row by Row Europe

Row by Row Goes Global!

2016-RxR-Logos-(1)

We are so happy to announce that Europe is now participating in Row by Row Experience™! We’ve shared a bit about Row by Row in the past, but if you’re unfamiliar you can read more about it here.

We’re so glad that those of you based in Europe will be able to engage in this amazing event. Find out which shops will be participating on the dedicated European page right here. If you’re a shop that would like to participate, you can sign up by visiting that page as well.

And for those of you based in the US, how fun would it be to visit a shop in Europe and snag an international row for your quilt?! That will be one well-travelled quilt! Be sure to collect the European FabricPlates™ that participating Row by Row shops will be offering, as well.

If you’re lucky enough to be travelling overseas this summer, your vacation just got a lot more exciting!

rxr-5

Patchwork Promotions, our European distributor, is even hosting a special Row by Row quilt exhibit at the European Quilt Championship, taking place in the Netherlands October 20th-23rd. The first finished quilt submitted from each of the participating European quilt shops will be displayed at the show, and Patchwork will also be choosing up to 20 American quilts to put on display!

To be considered, anyone from the US or Canada with at least one row from a European shop can send a photo of their finished quilt to [email protected]. More details will be available soon on the Row by Row website. We can’t wait to see this exhibit!

Don’t forget, the dates for this year are June 21 – September 6, 2016. Time to get travelling!

Getting Ready for Row by Row 2016 – Home Sweet Home!

2016-RxR-Logos-(1)

Who’s excited for Row by Row Experience this summer?! The theme is “Home Sweet Home”, and we’ve already noticed a growing buzz in stores and on social media. The dates for this year are June 21 – Sept. 6, 2016.

If you’re new to the event, read all about it here on Row by Row Studio (be sure to join their mailing list so you don’t miss any of the action!). This event has been sweeping the quilting world since 2011 and has grown bigger every year. In 2015, over 2700 shops participated across all 50 states and Canada!

For the third year in a row (no pun intended!), Debra Gabel has designed a collectible fabric line to celebrate the event. Home Sweet Home is hitting shops now, and you still have plenty of time to stitch up some cute travel accessories before Row by Row kicks off in June! The collection features an adorable map, quilters’ license plates (with phrases that were actually used by shops for their custom FabricPlates), a coloring book design, and more! Learn more about Debra’s creative process behind the fabric collection here.

We love hearing about Rowers coming together for the summer, and their enthusiasm is “sew” contagious! Just listen to these two anecdotes from Row by Row fans as they catch up with Janet Lutz, owner of Calico Gals and founder of the Row by Row Experience.

Have fun Rowing this summer!

QuiltCon West Recap!

Last week we visited Pasadena for QuiltCon West! We shared an exhibitor booth with our sister company, Dear Stella. Visitors could win prizes, snag some cool temporary tattoos, and stitch up “helping hands” charity blocks with us.

Here are some photos of our booth before the event kicked off. We arranged lots of fabrics, sewing supplies, and prizes, plus a mini quilt table showcasing designs from Sassafras Lane! Thread and notions were generously donated by Prym Consumer and Aurifil Thread.

As soon as QuiltCon began, our booth was jam packed with quilters ready to lend a hand. We really enjoyed connecting with the community and getting to know everyone that stopped by! Look at all those smiling faces – the joy was contagious.

We collected almost 200 “helping hand” blocks at the show. They will all be used to make quilts that will be used to give back to the Pasadena community. Stay tuned to our blog and social media for updates, and check out last year’s QuiltCon quilts here! We’re excited to see everyone’s handprints come together.

Of course, we also made sure to check out the beautiful quilts on display. They were breathtaking! Included in the show were several quilts that have been featured right here on SewTimeless.

Here’s Cindy Wiens’ “Delta Breeze” quilt featuring our Soho Solids:

IMG_5712-web

And you might recognize this one, also by Cindy. It’s actually the back of the quilt, which she made using scraps leftover from the quilt top. Cindy ended up liking the back better, so she entered it into the show that way! We love how quilting can surprise you — this design never would have come to be without the original intended design. Check out the Bullseye Quilt here. (This side of the quilt was later named “I’ve Got Your Back”.)

IMG_0006-web

IMG_0014-web

The Candy Dots quilt by Timeless designer Samarra Khaja can be found her recent book Sew Adorkable! She used our basics to create a 3-D quilt that looks like a gigantic version of those sweet little vintage candies. You know how you’re never supposed to touch the quilts at the quilt shows? Well, Samarra made that challenging, as those puffy dots were quite inviting.

To view the winning quilts in each category, click here. There are also lots of great photos popping up on blogs and social media, so be sure to check in and follow the #quiltcon hashtag on your favorite platforms!

Farewell, QuiltCon. It was great seeing you again! Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth.

We had a blast at QuiltCon last year, and it was for a great cause! Attendees helped us create over 200 blocks that would later be turned into bright & fun charity quilts by Project Linus volunteers. See the full show recap here, and check out all the donation quilts here!

Project Linus quilts made from 200+ blocks stitched in our booth last year!

We are always amazed by the generosity of our wonderful quilt community, which is why we’re continuing with a similar effort in our QuiltCon booth this year. We’ll be making charity blocks again, this time with a new twist. We hope you will lend a “Helping Hand” (psst… that’s a hint!).

Here’s a peek at some of the fun you’ll find in our booth next week. Aurifil and Prym Consumer have generously provided supplies to help create our charity blocks. (How gorgeous is this Aurifloss!?) Leslie Meltzer from 50 Sq Ft Studios took over for Day 2 of the tour. Leslie was inspired by the evolving technology of transportation during the 1920’s and 30’s and how it was changing the way Americans traveled. With this in mind, she chose to make a Get Out Of Town Duffle Bag from Patterns by Annie. With her leftover Charleston fabric, she also whipped up May Chappell’s Bon Voyage Passport Cover. Two fabulous projects for the retro-inspired jet-setter! Rebecca Silbaugh of Ruby Blue Quilts kicked off “hump day” by giving us the necessary steps to make her Scrappy Disappearing Four Patch quilt. Passionate about art history, Rebecca was super excited to use this line, and it’s certainly evident by looking at the gorgeous quilt top she stitched up! Thursday was another fun-filled day on the blog tour, featuring two designers equally inspired by Charleston.

Kim Brackett from Magnolia Bay Quilts designed an elegant block and shared the tutorial for it, and showed us how this block would look in a full quilt. View the post here or click the collage below.

Lee Chappell Monroe from May Chappell used her Clutched pattern to make these pretty purses with subtle metallic hues and a pop of blue in the lining. She walked us through her process of re-sizing the pattern so we can make this chic accessory using any size frame! View the post here or click the collage below. She’s giving away a PDF copy of her Clutched pattern in addition to the yard of Charleston fabric!

In corner displays, we introduced two new Timeless divisions: Tribeca, our playful take on current trends for apparel, home decor and quilting, and vintage-inspired REVIVE (coming late June), which takes antique fabrics and transforms them into modern designs for today’s stitcher.

REVIVE’s debut collection is called Charleston, and actual antique swatches were re-colored to create a beautifully gilded art deco collection. Original vintage source swatches displayed in shadowboxes helped bring history to life.

QuiltCon Recap!

We are back from QuiltCon, and what a whirlwind it has been! This 4-day show in Austin, hosted by the Modern Quilt Guild, was jam packed with awe-inspiring quilts, lectures, classes, demos, and lots of exciting vendors & exhibitors. We shared a booth with our sister company, Dear Stella. Take a peek at our photos and summary of the event below! For even more fun, check out Dear Stella’s QuiltCon recap here.

Guests were invited to appliqué/embroider clothes onto Dear Stella’s Dress Me fabric by Wee Gallery for a charity quilt. Here are some Dress Me blocks waiting for their new ensembles! Dear Stella’s new Clothes for the Playground fabric was a popular choice.

We created our "sewing room" with the help of Superior Threads and Prym Consumer. They generously supplied us with everything we needed to stitch the days away!

We received a huge number of blocks by the end of the show. Tons of visitors took the time to sit in our booth to stitch one up. It was so fun to see all the creative ways that attendees dressed them! Stay tuned on our blog for a final count, plus updates on the charity quilt(s) they will be turned into. The blocks pictured above were made by leaders of the first-ever Junior Modern Quilt Guild, who were a pleasure to spend time with. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to make one!

Our booth was packed with quilters every day! Never a dull moment.

Mandy Munroe demonstrated English Paper Piecing, appliqué, and embroidery techniques to our visitors. Here she is helping some newbies baste their first-ever EPP shapes! Not only did we enjoy getting to know all the attendees that spent time stitching in our booth, but it was special to see them get to know each other and share tips & tricks.

Jessica joined in on the fun during Jessica VanDenburgh‘s demonstration of her new Pathways Ruler in our booth. Here she is giving the curved ruler a test drive! View a demo on our Youtube channel here.

“Quilt for our Bed” by Laura Hartrich was one of our favorites. We were thrilled that it ended up winning Viewer’s Choice! We highly recommend viewing more quilts from the show on QuiltCon’s Facebook Page — there are too many to share here, and impossible to pick just a few! We were completely blown away by the caliber of the quilts presented at QuiltCon; it was overwhelming, to say the least.

Farewell, QuiltCon 2015! We had a total blast, and hope you did too.
