Forest Frolic is one of those collections that captures our imaginations time and time again. From quilts to home decor to apparel for any age, a new project idea pops into our heads every time we see it!
Leigh Headington of The Sweet Tea Girls recently whipped up a fun version of her Modern Slant on Retro apron using fabrics from Forest Frolic. The pattern is fat-quarter friendly and features a removable pinafore. Leigh also has some smart tips to help create perfect 1/4″ hems on your apron!
How to Turn Perfect 1/4″ Hems
To make a perfect 1/4″ hem on your apron project, use Washaway Wonder Tape. The tape is a double sided, wash-a-way 1/4″ wide tape that gives you the ability to turn the perfect 1/4″ hem without burning your fingers with the iron.
Step 1. Prepare your project to the point where the raw edges need to be turned.
Step 2. Stick a piece of Washaway Wonder Tape to the entire length of the raw edge you want to turn. Finger press the tape firmly to the fabric.
Step 3. Peel off the cover paper, leaving the top side of the tape exposed. Turn the fabric an exact 1/4″ with no effort. Finger press the fold to secure the turned seam.
Step 4. Turn the edge another 1/4″ to cover the raw edge; press the hem flat with an iron.
Step 5. Top stitch the hem for a beautiful, clean finish.
