Paper Piecing the Paddlewheel with Quiltworx CI Denise Green

Have you seen the April 2015 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting? Included in the magazine are instructions and templates to make this beautiful Paddlewheel quilt by Judy Niemeyer/Quiltworx. At 36″ square, it makes a fabulous wall hanging or table topper!

Judy and her daughter, Judel, used their Timeless Treasures fabric collections to make the versions featured below. They are also hosting a contest for APQ readers to make their own versions out of The Reclaimed West or Tonga Firestorm! (Contest rules, prize info and deadlines can be found on the Quiltworx website here.)

If you’re new to paper piecing, Certified Instructor Denise Green (HollyDee Quilts) has posted a two-part tutorial on her blog that takes you step-by-step through the process of making this design. The small quilt size makes it great for beginners!

Part one of Denise’s tutorial can be found here, and part two can be found here.

We love how hers came out! It’s so fun to see all the creative ways that the different fabrics can be combined in this pattern. Denise used fabrics from Judy and Judel Niemeyer’s Reclaimed West collection.
