QuiltCon Recap!

We are back from QuiltCon, and what a whirlwind it has been! This 4-day show in Austin, hosted by the Modern Quilt Guild, was jam packed with awe-inspiring quilts, lectures, classes, demos, and lots of exciting vendors & exhibitors. We shared a booth with our sister company, Dear Stella. Take a peek at our photos and summary of the event below! For even more fun, check out Dear Stella’s QuiltCon recap here.

Guests were invited to appliqué/embroider clothes onto Dear Stella’s Dress Me fabric by Wee Gallery for a charity quilt. Here are some Dress Me blocks waiting for their new ensembles! Dear Stella’s new Clothes for the Playground fabric was a popular choice.

We created our "sewing room" with the help of Superior Threads and Prym Consumer. They generously supplied us with everything we needed to stitch the days away!

We received a huge number of blocks by the end of the show. Tons of visitors took the time to sit in our booth to stitch one up. It was so fun to see all the creative ways that attendees dressed them! Stay tuned on our blog for a final count, plus updates on the charity quilt(s) they will be turned into. The blocks pictured above were made by leaders of the first-ever Junior Modern Quilt Guild, who were a pleasure to spend time with. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to make one!

Mandy Munroe demonstrated English Paper Piecing, appliqué, and embroidery techniques to our visitors. Here she is helping some newbies baste their first-ever EPP shapes! Not only did we enjoy getting to know all the attendees that spent time stitching in our booth, but it was special to see them get to know each other and share tips & tricks.

Jessica joined in on the fun during Jessica VanDenburgh‘s demonstration of her new Pathways Ruler in our booth. Here she is giving the curved ruler a test drive! View a demo on our Youtube channel here.

“Quilt for our Bed” by Laura Hartrich was one of our favorites. We were thrilled that it ended up winning Viewer’s Choice! We highly recommend viewing more quilts from the show on QuiltCon’s Facebook Page — there are too many to share here, and impossible to pick just a few! We were completely blown away by the caliber of the quilts presented at QuiltCon; it was overwhelming, to say the least.

Farewell, QuiltCon 2015! We had a total blast, and hope you did too.
