Have you ever been to Shiny Happy World? Wendi Gratz, the blogger, pattern designer, and educator behind the site, has tons of super adorable projects to share with you. We just can’t visit her site without letting out squeals of excitement at every cute post!
Wendy is a big fan of Timeless Basics such as Sketch, Rain, Soho Solids, Dream, Ziggy, and Java Blenders, and uses tons of our Geos (like Sketch Dot) and Minis as well. She recently released several new applique patterns that use our fabrics, and we’re totally in love!
Check out her blog post all about choosing fabric for her latest quilt, where she goes into more detail about some of her favorite Timeless collections.
We love the free patterns, too. Our favorite is this Puppy Tablet Tote she flaunted at Quilt Market, featuring Tonga Batiks, Sketch and Rain. And we can’t wait to snuggle up with Warren the Charity Bear.
Wendi has posted tons of video tutorials to her YouTube channel to help you along, so if you’ve never done applique, embroidery, or softies, not to worry! She’ll hold your hand every step of the way. Wendi also covers the basics for lots of other beginner sewing and quilting techniques. Make sure to subscribe so you don’t miss a beat – her channel is an amazing resource!
The “Lessons” tabs displayed at the top of Shiny Happy World are a great place to start, too. They will lead you not only to the related videos, but also to blog entries that feature written instructions to help hone your skills.
Wendy’s recent series of videos about Quilt as You Go (QAYG) features our basics up close and personal, and made us reconsider making large quilts on our small sewing machines. Find links to each one here, and check out the intro episode below.
