Team Timeless // Sakura Table Runner Tutorial

TEAM-TIMELESS-LOGO_500px

We’re so excited to bring you our first Team Timeless tutorial this week! We’ll be sharing a fun project from one of our four Team Timeless designers every month, including step by step instructions on how to make them at home. All the featured tutorials can be made with half-yard cuts of fabric or less!

Kicking off the fun is Osie Lebowitz, a passionate quilter who has been in the industry for over 30 years. She began designing Broome Street patterns for Timeless Treasures in 2011, and we are super excited to have her on board with Team Timeless as well!

Osie designed this gorgeous table runner using fabrics from our new Sakura line, a stunning collection by Chong-a Hwang. Keep scrolling for a complete guide on how to recreate this eye-catching centerpiece!

Table Runner Construction

All seam allowances are ¼” and pieces are sewn right side together. Press after each seam.

1. Sew a 2” x 7” CM6161 Grey strip to opposite sides of 7” CM6163 Maroon square (See figure 1).

2. Sew a 2” x 10” CM6161 Grey strip to opposite sides of step 1 (See figure 1). Repeat to make two blocks.

3. Use the blocks from step 2, cut blocks diagonally (corner to corner) once to make 2 triangles (4 total). (See figure 2).

4. Following figure 3, sew triangles from step 3 to opposite side of 12 ½” CM6158 Navy square.   TIPS:   Be sure to match the center of the triangle and center of block side and pin. Add extra pins on the seam to keep block even. Since the triangle is a bias edge, place the triangle side down next to your feed dogs when sewing. This helps the fabric to feed evenly. (See figure 3).

5.  Sew remaining two triangles from Step 3 to two remaining sides of step 4 unit (see figure 3) to complete center unit.

6. Sew 2” x 18” CM6161 Grey strips to opposite sides of the center unit from step 5.

7. Following figure 4, sew two CM6161 Grey triangles to short sides of one 13 1/4” CM6159 Cream triangle. Repeat to make two units. (See figure 4.)

8. Sew step 7 unit to each end of the table runner next to 2” x 18” CM6161 Grey strips (refer to table runner photo for block orientation).

9. Sew two 7” CM6163 Navy triangles to two adjacent sides of a 6 ½” CM6159 Blue square (see figure 5). Repeat to make two units.

10. Sew step 9 units to each end of the table runner (refer to table runner photo for block orientation).

Finishing

11. Layer the table runner, batting and backing and quilt as desired.

12. Stitch the binding strips together end to end using diagonal seams. Fold and press the resulting long strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together. Stitch to the table runner front, matching raw edges and mitering the corners.

13. Fold the binding to the table runner underside and hand-stitch the folded edge to the quilt back.

Place on your table and enjoy!!!
